World Music Festival - Ogimachi Park, July 22nd
Summer can be hot and sticky in Japan, but fortunately, the weather was fine when I had to gig outdoors at Ogimachi Park for the World Music Festival. This was an interesting gig since I played without the full band. It was just me and sensational bassist, Tetsuro Aratama, on the big stage. With a lesser musician, it could have been a disaster. Or at least, boring. But Aratama kept things cool and funky as we did our thing - even drawing some of the crowd to their feet to start dancing. I heard lots of good music on that day, and made new friends. Foremost among them are Lee Tabasco and his rock band, the Frying Dutchman, who played just after my set. The evening ended with a really hot salsa band. Singing, then dancing under the stars… Delight.
